Cahill's Crossing is a real location. It is a causeway that crosses a river and connects Arnhemland to Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory Australia. It is well known for having a very high concentration of huge saltwater crocodiles all in one place. The river is tidal so at low tide the causeway is exposed and no water flows over it, fish like mullet and barramundi have to wait on either side of the causeway for the rising tide so they can continue their journey up or down the river. The saltwater crocodiles are there to feast on those fish. Two people have been taken by the crocs there and killed. One while I was living in Darwin. My mother was visiting from Sydney and I had a 4WD Pajero. A man had been drinking and fishing from the causeway when he slipped and fell in, I read a witness interview who said the man had a beer can in one hand and his fishing rod in the other and he didn't drop either as he tried to swim to the bank. A large saltwater crocodile grabbed him by the head and killed him. Local aboriginals didn't want the crocodile killed by authorities as crocodiles are sacred to them. I drove my Mum out to show her the location the day after the attack so she could see how many big crocs there are there. She wasn't happy about us driving through a creek with the water so deep it came over the bonnet of the 4WD. I see videos on a regular basis of people doing ridiculously stupid things at Cahill's Crossing. Most people get away with it but not worth the risk. Like people trying to drive across the causeway at high tide when the water is flowing hard across it.
