Let me put some context into this very personal song. One of the first Science Fiction books I read as a child was 'Men, Martians and Machines' by Eric Frank Russell. A space opera about humans, martians and robots co-operating together and exploring space. I'm also old enough to actually remember black and white television! Now you know. Unlike the song lyric stating otherwise, it WAS a hobby that lasted.
