I first met Neville Wilson in Alice Springs and then again over a thousand kilometres away in Darwin. Nev is one of the most talented musicians/entertainers that I know. Audiences love him. In many ways he is the ultimate performer. He plays multiple stringed instruments, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, even ukulele, he's even been a puppeteer at one stage. His vocals are amazing and he does harmonies effortlessly. His vocal range was far superior to mine but he was happy to let me do lead vocals while he did harmonies with a couple of songs where he did the lead vocals. Bob Marley's No Woman No Cry he performed particularly well. On stage he is incredibly charismatic and funny. I was fortunate enough to perform in THE DARWIN PARTY BOYS with Neville for a few gigs at Lims Hotel in Darwin. Lims Hotel was famous for it's Sunday arvo RAGE IN THE CAGE as locals called the sessions. It was a throw together band that never had a practice. We all had songs in common we knew that we played in other bands so we would do those songs fairly well. Because we have a similar sense of humour our gigs were also 4 hours of comedy as we bounced jokes and skits off each other on stage. I ended up being best man at his wedding I organised some free luxury vehicles for the wedding as well as his bucks do, heh heh. That was a night to remember. Scantily clad dancers and 3 girls who fed him and lifted his drinks to his mouth all night. I am pleased to say all these years later Neville is still gigging and still married to the same woman. He and his wife moved to North Queensland a hotly contested region with loads of musos looking for gigs. Ever versatile Nev has a three piece band and he also does solo gigs. Recently he was driving a long way on the highway coming home from a gig and I think he might have had a micro sleep as he crashed off the highway into a 15 foot deep concrete culvert. Wrote his car off and hurt his foot but he survived.
