Another true story. I was in my early 20's and fresh from the big smoke (Sydney). I went to live at Hartleys Creek north of Cairns in Far North Queensland. An older guy had a big fast aluminium boat and I was invited to go water ski-ing on the Daintree River. There was a few of us. He took us to the mouth of the river and we all waited on a big sand bank waiting our turn to ski. Back then I knew nothing about Saltwater Crocodiles and I didn't know they were in the Daintree river. I knew what they were but that was it. My turn came and I sat in the water waiting for the boat to pull me up. I was off and ski-ing up the Daintree River loving it until I saw a big Saltwater crocodile jump into the water from the river bank as I went past. At that moment I could have cracked a walnut with my sphincter muscle. I concentrated on staying up on the ski's and skied out of the water right up onto the beach falling flat on my face on the sand. That was the end of water ski-ing for the day. No one else wanted to ski after I told them what I saw. Crocodiles back then were not protected so there weren't as many around as there are today. You wouldn't want to do this today you would not get away with it.
