1314AD - The Battle of Bannockburn - I visited the Bannockburn Visitor Centre in Stirling today! Not for the first I have to add.
Historical note - the schiltron (or sheltron) is a dense, circular or rectangular phalanx formation of spearmen, famously used by Scottish troops during the Wars of Independence in the late 13th and early 14th centuries. Designed as an anti-cavalry tactic, soldiers packed tightly with long spears, creating an armored "hedgehog" or wall of spikes that was nearly impossible to break with horses.
